Frontline Plus For Dogs: An Expert Review

I’ve been breeding and showing dogs for over 10 years. I have five dogs. I have to be very careful about fleas. I’ve used a lot of products over the years and my favorite product is Frontline Plus for Dogs.

Frontline Plus for Dogs kills fleas effectively. Since I’ve been using this product my dogs don’t have fleas. I apply the product to all dogs at the same time. There are no fleas on the dogs and the fleas don’t have a chance to reproduce, so there are no fleas in my home or yard. I love that!

It is very easy to use. The product is a liquid and comes in a pre-measured tube. It is for spot-on, topical application. All you have to do is squeeze the tube onto your dog’s neck, after parting the dog’s hair, and pour the liquid on your dog’s skin. That’s it. The dog absorbs the liquid and it is “wicked” into his hair. When the fleas come in contact with the hair containing the product, they start to die. All fleas on your dog are dead within 12 hours. Frontline Plus kills up to 100 percent of fleas and 95 percent of ticks.

Frontline Plus for Dogs kills ticks, too. That’s the difference between Frontline for Dogs and Frontline Plus for Dogs. The “Plus” is for ticks. Although I don’t live in an area where ticks are common, I like knowing that my dogs are protected against them in case they do come in contact with them. Frontline Plus does not kill ticks before they attach to your dog, however. The tick may attach and die within 12 hours, but it may have to be removed by hand.

I have heard people say that their dogs have had a temporary skin reaction to Frontline Plus but I’ve been using this product for my dogs for years and my dogs have never had any problems with it. I’m sure that it is always possible for some dogs to be sensitive to the ingredients in a flea control product. The active ingredient is fipronil which is a broad spectrum insecticide. Frontline Plus also contains S-methoprene.

You can use it on puppies as young as eight weeks old. Frontline Plus may be used on pregnant, lactating and breeding dogs, unlike Frontline Spray.

After using Frontline Plus for Dogs for years, I am very happy with the product and so are my dogs. We haven’t seen a flea in years.

Where Can I Get Frontline Plus For Dogs?

Frontline Plus for dogs does tend to be somewhat expensive. You can purchase the product from your veterinarian and from some pet stores and pet supply stores.  If you are going to purchase Frontline Plus then you must make sure you buy the correct version for your dog (or cat). There are different versions depending on your dog’s weight, and a different version for cats.
