Ear infections tend to be very common in dogs, especially in dogs with long, floppy ears.  Dogs with long ears often have less air circulating in the ear canals which makes the ears moist and dark.  This can be a perfect area for infections to grow.  However, any dog can have an ear infection.  That’s why it’s important for you to check your dog’s ears often and clean them regularly.  Clean ears will smell normal but an ear with an infection will have a musty, bad smell. continue reading

Ear mites are a parasite found in the ear canals of dogs and cats.  There are actually several different kinds of mites that can be responsible for ear mite infections.  The most common mite found in puppies is the Otodectes cynotis.  However, the treatment for all ear mite infections is the same.  Ear mites are also able to live on other parts of the dog’s body. continue reading
